Seungwon An, Ph.D.

Principal Consultant

Seungwon An is a Principal Consultant at PowerGEM. His primary duties are in development and upgrade of TARA software features.

Prior to joining PowerGEM, he was employed by PJM as a Senior Engineer in the Transmission Planning and Interconnection Analysis departments. He was with PJM for seven years. During that time, he developed various analysis software including tools for generation deliverability, load deliverability, queue study automation, and N-1-1 applications. He also developed optimal generator dispatch software to calculate Capacity Emergency Transfer Limit (CETL) used in PJM's annual RPM auction. He led RTEP baseline studies, RPM studies, and unit retirement studies. He also performed various generation interconnection studies and 15-year planning studies.

Dr. An has a BS degree in Ship Engineering from Korea Maritime University, and worked three years aboard a merchant ship as well as a military ship. He holds MS and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Oklahoma State University. He is the author of several technical publications in the area of power system analysis, and secured several patents from Korea, China, and England regarding open freight unloading systems. Dr. An is a Member of IEEE.
